Original artwork created by more than 25 local artists who are members of the Gallery On High, 254 High St., Pottstown PA, are on display daily through Nov. 17 during the gallery’s Fall Member Art Show. Show hours are Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All show receptions are free and open to the public.

Up for a challenge? The Amity Chess Club meets from 7-10 p.m. at St. Paul’s UCC Church, 1312 Old Swede Rd., Douglassville PA, for chess matches and lessons at all ages and skill levels. For more information, call 610-385-6324.

Two one-act melodramas that encourage audience participation will be staged this weekend, Nov. 6 and 7 (2009; Friday and Saturday) at 7:30 p.m., and a matinee Nov. 8 (2009; Sunday) at 2 p.m., by students of St. Pius X High School at the school, 844 N. Keim St., Pottstown PA. On the program are “Run to the Roundhouse, Nellie” and “The Paper Bag Bandit Rides Again.” Tickets, which will be available at the door, cost $7 for the general public, and $5 for students on Friday and Saturday nights. “1776,” the award-winning musical about the signing of the Declaration of Independence, will be staged Friday and Saturday (Nov. 6 and 7, 2009) at 8 p.m. in the Forge Theatre, 241 First Ave., Phoenixville PA. An antique gun and sword collector show, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Antique Gun Collectors Association, will be held Nov. 7 (2009; Saturday) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Nov. 8 (2009; Sunday) from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sunnybrook Ballroom, 1613 High St., Pottstown PA. The third annual wine tasting fund-raiser conducted by the board of directors of the Pottstown Public Library is scheduled for Nov. 7 (2009; Saturday) from 7-9 p.m. at the library, 500 E. High St., Pottstown PA. The event benefits library operations. Unique fine wines will be presented by wine educators and consultants Dean and Lisa Foster of Vintage Connections,  and paired with foods catered by Bause-Landry Caterers of Pottstown PA. The event features handmade crafts, country store, white elephant, deli and baked goods.
