Letter carriers are ready to pick up food donations.
LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Members of the National Association of Letter Carriers – the men and women who deliver your mail – in conjunction with the U.S. Postal Service and Feeding America, will collect non-perishable food items throughout today (Saturday, May 9, 2009) to help families in need. Canned meats and fish, canned soup, juices, pasta, vegetables, cereal and rice are among the foods wanted.
Mail recipients in Sanatoga village and Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Township can help with the nationwide effort, called “Stamp Out Hunger.” Food donations may be left in bags next to your mailbox for letter carriers to pick up. Collected items will first be taken to post offices, and then delivered to local food banks and pantries.
Stamp Out Hunger is the nation’s largest single-day food drive. Last year, it collected more than 73 million pounds of food for donation to food banks.
